Gary J. Jansen, age 68, of Breese, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 23, 1954, in Breese, he was the son of the late August and Theodolinda “Linda” (née Voss) Jansen.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Leroy Jansen, Daniel Jansen, and August Jansen, who passed away in infancy. He is survived by his children, Jason Jansen of Dix, Amanda (Rick) Loepker of Bartelso, Jeremy Jansen of Breese, and Amber (Ian) Brooke of Breese. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Aimee and Sage Jansen; Jalen, Kyren, and Trena Loepker; and Kaylee, Camden, and Cooper Brooke.
In addition, Gary is survived by his siblings, Sr. Linda Jansen, SSND of St. Louis, Virgil (Diane) Jansen of Germantown, Judy (Arnold) Huelsmann of Trenton, Helen Jansen of St. Louis, Mary (Chris) Williams of Independence, Missouri, Pat (Gay) Jansen of Breese, Philip Jansen of Augusta, Georgia, Susie (Dennis) Wagner of Fairview Heights, and Tim (Melissa) Jansen of Charleston, South Carolina, as well as his sister-in-law Lou Jansen of Carlyle. He will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Gary dedicated much of his life to farming and previously worked at Strat-O-Span Buildings in Breese. He was a devoted member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and actively involved in his community through organizations such as the Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869, where he served as a former Grand Knight, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Althoff Assembly, and the Clinton County Farm Bureau.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially playing pinochle with his Thursday night group at the KC Hall, bowling, and attending his grandchildren’s events, where he was a proud and supportive presence.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Visitation will take place the same day from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869. Donations will be accepted at the visitation or by mail through Moss Funeral Home, which is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gary J. Jansen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his dedication to family, faith, and community.
